Los
pronombres I, you, he, she, it, we, you, they se emplean
como sujeto y acompañan necesariamente al verbo que no lleve
sujeto explícito:
I
am a teacher.

En
inglés, los animales, en general, y las cosas carecen de género
gramatical. Para designarlos se emplea el pronombre neutro "it".
Cuando "it" tiene la función de sujeto, no se traduce al español:
The
cat is white; it is under the table.
El gato es blanco; está debajo de la mesa.
La
segunda persona del singular y del plural tienen la misma forma: you
are, que significa indistintamente "tú eres" y "vosotros
sois". Como no hay una forma de cortesía equivalente al español
"usted", se emplea en su lugar "you". "You are"
significa igualmente "usted es" y "ustedes son".
You
are George. Tú eres Jorge. Ud. es Jorge.
You are engineers. Vosotros sois ingenieros. Uds. son ingenieros.
La
tercera persona del plural, "they", significa indistintamente
"ellos" o "ellas" y se usa también para designar
animales y cosas:
They
are men. Son hombres. They are girls. Son chicas.
They are cats. Son gatos. They are apples. Son manzanas.
PROFESIONES
Los nombres de profesión van siempre precedidos del artículo indefinido a
o an cuando funcionan como predicado nominal:
He
is a doctor. Es médico
I am an engineer. Soy ingeniero.
CONTRACCIONES
En la lengua hablada las formas del verbo "to be" suelen
contraerse con el sujeto
I
am George. > I'm George.
You are a doctor. > You're a doctor.
Susan is in the garden. > Susan's in the garden.
HOUSEWIFE
> HOUSEWIVES
Los nombres terminados en -f o -fe forman el plural cambiando dichas -fe o
-f por -v y añadiendo a continuación el morfema de plural -es:
