THERE IS, THERE ARE hay

El verbo to be, precedido del adverbio there, allí, tiene carácter impersonal. Se conjuga únicamente en la tercera persona del singular y del plural, en tanto que en español se conjuga sólo en la tercera persona del singular:

There is a table in the kitchen. Hay una mesa en la cocina.
There are three books on the table. Hay tres libros en la mesa.

La forma interrogativa se construye invirtiendo el orden de there y el verbo, la negativa poniendo not a continuación del verbo:

There is a fridge in the kitchen. Is there a fridge in the kitchen?
                                              There is not a fridge in the kitchen.

Como en el verbo to be, estas formas pueden también contraerse:

There's a table in the kitchen. Hay una mesa en la cocina,
There isn't a settee near the window. No hay un sofá cerca de la ventana.
There aren't any oranges in that box. No hay naranjas en aquella caja.

SOME, ANY algún, alguno(s)

Son adjetivos o pronombres indefinidos que expresan cantidad más o menos indefinida. El adjetivo se emplea delante de nombres en plural cuyo número puede contarse. Tienen una única forma para el masculino y el femenino, y corresponden indistintamente al singular y plural en español. Some emplea en frases afirmativas y any en frases interrogativas:

Are there any magazines on the table? ¿Hay alguna(s) revista(s) en la mesa? There are some magazines and some books on the table.
Hay a'gunas revistas y algunos libros en la mesa.

NOT ANY ningún, ninguno

Se emplea en frases negativas:

There are not any pictures on the walls. No hay ningún cuadro en las paredes.
There are not any boxes near the door. No hay ninguna caja cerca de la puerta.

En inglés el uso del indefinido en esta situación es obligado, en tanto que en español no es siempre necesario:

Are there any apples in that box?     ¿Hay manzanas en aquella caja?
There aren't any apples in the box; there are some oranges.
No hay manzanas en la caja; hay naranjas.

Como en el verbo to be, estas formas pueden contraerse y usarse en respuestas breves:

There's a table in the kitchen. Hay una mesa en la cocina.
There isn't a settee near the door. No hay un sofá cerca de la puerta.
There aren't any oranges in that box. No hay naranjas en aquella caja.
Is there a car in the garage? Yes, there is. ¿Hay un coche en el garaje? Sí (lo hay).
No, there isn't. No (no lo hay).
Are there any magazines on the table? Yes, there are. ¿Hay algunas revistas encima de la mesa?. Sí (las hay)
No, there aren't. No (no las hay)

HOW MANY cuántos, cuántas

Se emplea delante de nombres, en plural, cuyo número puede contarse para preguntar por una cantidad determinada de los mismos:

How many oranges are there in the box?   ¿Cuántas naranjas hay en la caja?

FRIDGE

Fridge es la abreviatura de refrigerator (nevera, refrigerador).
